Parker Deluxe Pure Badger Shaving Brush Review

Parker Deluxe Pure Badger Shaving Brush Review

The Parker Deluxe Pure Badger Shaving Brush was the first shaving brush that I purchased. While I have liked it from the start, I didn’t truly appreciate how good it really is until I circled back to it after trying a few other shaving brushes.

Pure badger hair is regarded to be on the lower end of the badger quality scale, but do keep in mind that all grades are great and work really well. Being my first brush and me being a little naïve, I immediately set my sites on a silvertip brush because I thought silvertip is conclusively better regardless. It was this misguided attitude that delayed my appreciation for this shaving brush.

Pure badger is, overall, not as soft as silvertip. That said, the more I use this brush the softer it is getting. At this point I would say it is at least as soft as any new silvertip before it gets broken in. I also don’t mind just a hint of roughness as I feel it exfoliates my face and head while I apply my lather, and quite frankly it feels kind of good.

Speaking of lather, this brush is great for bowl lathering – but not for face lathering. The large knot and long loft really work great to whip up a fantastic lather. It does not however, in my opinion, have enough back to be proficient at face lathering. And that’s fine! It gives us a great excuse to go buy more brushes, one that is specifically good for face lathering like a boar hair Semogue 620.

I shave my head as well as my face. Anyone that shaves their head will notice a small brush immediately, and this is not a small brush. It works great on my face, and fantastic on my head. I also find that because of the size, it tends to hold its temperature better which I really noticed applying lather for my second pass of my last shave. You would think that this would reduce my want for a scuttle but I didn’t even consider one until I realized how awesome the warm lather is.

Another thing that I did not notice until trying other brushes is that it barely sheds any hairs at all. Overall it would be a couple hairs at most that I have noticed.

The price for the Parker Deluxe Pure Badger Shaving Brush is around the mid range, just before that jump to the next level of brushes. You typically get what you pay for and I think there is great value of what you get for the price.

I highly recommend the Parker Deluxe Pure Badger Shaving Brush. Whether just starting out or adding to your collection it works great, especially for bowl lather and its great if you shave your head.
